Periodontic Treatments
Gingivitis is one of the gum diseases most commonly encountered by our Ontario dentist. When a patient suffers from gingivitis, the gums become red and swollen. Bleeding might also occur. While this is the mildest form of gum disease, it is still a very serious concern that our dentist wants to identify and treat quickly. When gingivitis is untreated, it often progresses to more serious forms of gum disease called periodontitis. Periodontitis eventually progresses to a stage where gums begin to separate from teeth. When this happens, tooth loss can occur. Infection is also another symptom of periodontitis. Because of the severe nature of periodontitis and the consequences for our patients, our dentist in Ontario is watchful of the earliest signs of gum disease so that treatment can be performed before it progresses to later stages.
When gum disease is mild, minor procedures will be able to help patients cope with their gum disease. Antibiotic rinses often help to curb the bacteria that seeps into the gums and the rinses help to lessen swelling and bleeding of the gums. When the gum disease is more advanced, our Ontario periodontist might perform other procedures, such as scaling and root planing. This can help to remove plaque and tartar that can advance gum disease and cause more trouble for our patients.
Gum disease is a vicious disease that can affect teeth as well as gums in its severe stages. Routine visits with our periodontist in Ontario can greatly reduce your chances of being affected by gum disease.

Pocket reduction and soft tissue grafts are generally reserved for patients suffering from very advanced periodontist. Medication may also be required for some of our patients with gum disease. The treatment chosen by our periodontist in Ontario will depend on the stages of gum disease that exist.
Examining for gum disease is an important part of all our routine exams, but even when gum disease isn’t present our dentist will discuss ways to maintain healthy gums and certain rinses that might benefit continued periodontal health. Gum disease is a very common form of dental disease and because of this our dentist frequently studies new treatments that can help prevent the onset of gum disease and treatments that can slow progression and reverse damage done. To maintain the best overall dental health, we incorporate periodontal dentistry in our general practice.
